Hastings and Rye MP Amber Rudd visited Ark Blacklands Primary Academy on Friday 3 March to congratulate the school on being rated as outstanding in a recent Ofsted inspection.

Ark Blacklands became one of only eleven schools in the country to go straight from an inadequate grading to outstanding.

Ms Rudd joined a tour of the school and the facilities available to pupils. During the tour she was greeted by class ambassadors who welcomed her to their class and explained what they were working on that day. Following the tour, Ms Rudd met with the elected student council and discussed her role as the Hastings and Rye MP, her priorities for the area, and her work as Home Secretary.

Ms Rudd said: “Ark Blacklands Primary Academy has made excellent progress and I am pleased that the hard work of teachers, staff, pupils and parents has been recognised by Ofsted with the outstanding grading.

“It was a pleasure to meet class ambassadors Kara, Alana, Amelia and Grace as well as the Student Council, and talk with them about their roles in the school and what they are learning in lessons.”

Lorraine Clarke, Executive Principal, added: ‘’We were delighted to welcome Amber Rudd to Ark Blacklands. Pupils and staff are proud of our recent outstanding Ofsted report and so we were pleased to have the opportunity to show Ms Rudd our school in action and what makes us so special."
